Real-Time Modelling Water Supply Zurich

SWISSWATER has been managing the real-time groundwater management system of the Zurich water supply for more than 10 years. It enables optimum control of the enrichment and extraction wells and thus cost-efficient process operation.

Except for minor adaptations, the Hardhof integrated 3D groundwater model has been used in its original form since the commissioning of the online model. The decision was made to create a new groundwater model because of structural changes, progress in the area of network construction and increasing computing power. The new 3D groundwater model not only reproduces wells and building structures in detail, but also current uses and conditions. The new model was promptly integrated into the online operation.
